To Paint or Make Love
Peindre ou faire l’amour
Directors: Arnaud and Jean-Marie LARRIEU

Set in the shadows of handsome mountain peaks, TO PAINT OR MAKE LOVE is a sly, provocative and quite possibly subversive film about a long-married couple who unexpectedly encounters the delights and complications of partner swapping.
Having reached (early) retirement age, Madeleine (Sabine Azéma) and William (Daniel Auteuil) lead a quiet life. One day, as Madeleine is painting the pretty landscape in a nearby valley, the fascinating, blind village mayor, Adam (Sergi López), convinces her to buy an isolated house in the heart of the Vercors mountains. Indeed William and Madeleine soon trade their city apartment for the pastoral life; they get to know Adam and his attractive wife Eva (Amira Casar) at dinner parties, and when Adam and Eva’s house is burnt down, William and Madeleine want nothing more than to take them in. Aroused by the youthful pair, and inspired by the beauty of their surroundings, the older couple gradually free themselves of their inhibitions…
This entertainingly playful comedy is marked by wonderful performances from the all-star cast and artful direction, which delicately fosters the mellow erotic tone.
