This year’s special family presentation is from renowned director Cédric Kahn (Time Out, Red Lights). THE PLANE is a delightful, exhilarating and poignant film for all ages, faithfully based on the beloved Charly series of comic books.
Charly (Roméo Botzaris) lives with his mothier (Isabelle Carré) and father (Vincent Lindon) in a large house in the mountains. Dad is a respected pilot and engineer in the military, and this often keeps him away from his adoring son. Charly begs him to bring home a bike for Christmas, but instead, Dad gives him a large model aeroplane – sleek, white and very light – to his clear dissatisfaction. Soon after however, his father is tragically killed in an unseen accident, and the toy plane suddenly comes to life for Charly, gliding, and then flying on its own.
Dad’s co-worker Xavier (Nicolas Briançon) is called, and takes the miraculous plane away from Charly for examination. With the help of his neighbour Mercedes and her bicycle, Charly must rescue his beloved plane and come to terms with the family’s loss.
