In His Hands
Entre ses Mains
Director: Anne FONTAINE

IN HIS HANDS is a taut and intriguing psychological thriller, the new film from Anne Fontaine (Nathalie...) about a doomed romance. As with the best films in this genre it’s an absorbing and penetrating insight into attraction and, ultimately, love.
Claire Gautier (Isabelle Carré) is an attractive, married insurance claims assessor. She meets veterinarian Laurent Kessler (Benoît Poelvoorde) when he files a claim for water damage. He begins to pursue her sexually, showing up at her workplace and winning her over despite her better judgement. Clues suggest he may also be the psychotic killer who’s on the loose, preying on women. In the finest Hitchcockian fashion, Claire’s physical fascination with Laurent increases with her fear.
Blessed with a tight and controlled script, as well as stunning performances by Carré and Poelvoorde, Fontaine plumbs every situation for its maximum power. As the scenery changes from autumnal to wintry, even the setting of Lille contributes towards creating a skilled portrait of two people grappling with their deepest fears and hopes.
