This year’s Opening Night selection is a fast-paced and wildly entertaining mystery thriller, set amidst the seductive glamour and luxury of the South of France.
Anthony Zimmer is wanted by the police for international money laundering. Nobody knows what he looks like, but in the race to catch him, high-ranking police official Akerman (Sami Frey) has a distinct advantage – he knows about Zimmer’s weakness for the stunning Chiara Manzoni (Sophie Marceau). The recently divorced and painfully ordinary translator François (Yvan Attal) knows absolutely nothing about this, of course. But when he meets Chiara on a train, and is swept along to an up market Cannes Hotel with her, not only do the police suspect that he’s Zimmer, but so do some of Zimmer’s shady associates...
ANTHONY ZIMMER is stylishly realized and marvelous fun. Sophie Marceau is fabulous as the classy femme fatale, as is Yvan Attal, the geeky everyman who gets caught in the middle of the action. With ingenious chases, close calls, double crosses and a wonderful surprise ending, ANTHONY ZIMMER doesn’t disappoint!
